Hosting a phone charging station in your pub, bar or restaurant
AmpLet supplies a self-service power bank station for your venue. Customers rent a portable charger, keep their phone with them and charge at their table. Your venue earns 20% of net rental revenue.
This guide explains the costs, day-to-day responsibilities and placement agreement so you can decide whether hosting is right for you.
Who pays for what?
AmpLet owns and supplies the station. There is no purchase price, station rental fee or service charge for your venue. Delivery, maintenance and replacement of faulty or customer-lost power banks are included.
Your venue provides the agreed space and a mains socket, and pays for the electricity the station uses.
Customers pay AmpLet to rent a power bank. The advertised rental price is £3 an hour.
How customers rent a power bank
- Pay at the station. Customers use contactless payment, Apple Pay or Google Pay. No app is needed.
- Take a power bank. Built-in iPhone and USB-C cables let them charge while keeping their phone with them.
- Return it to the station. Power banks can be returned to any available slot in the AmpLet station.
Your staff do not take payment, hold customers' phones or hand out chargers. AmpLet runs the rental service and handles customer payments, refunds and support.
What your venue needs
The station holds eight power banks and sits on a counter. It needs a visible, accessible position with a nearby mains socket, such as an agreed spot on the bar or near the entrance.
AmpLet ships the kit ready to use. You place it in the agreed location and plug it in.
We’ll confirm the space, access and connection requirements with you before delivery. You will need permission to host the equipment and to keep it accessible during normal opening hours.
What staff need to do
Rentals are self-service, but there are a few basic hosting responsibilities:
- Keep the station plugged in, visible and accessible.
- Share AmpLet's simple onboarding brief with front-of-house staff and keep the customer signage in place.
- Take reasonable care of the equipment and tell AmpLet about faults, damage or missing equipment.
- Ask AmpLet before moving or trying to repair the station.
AmpLet maintains the equipment and replaces faulty or customer-lost power banks. Your venue is not charged for customer-lost power banks or ordinary wear and tear. The placement agreement sets out each side's responsibilities for looking after the equipment and for damage.

How your 20% revenue share works
Your venue receives 20% of net rental revenue from its station.
Net rental revenue means the rental charges AmpLet receives, excluding VAT, refunds, chargebacks and customer charges for lost or unreturned power banks. AmpLet's own operating costs are not deducted before calculating your share.
For example, if a station generates £500 in net rental revenue in a month, the venue's share is £100. This is an illustration of the calculation, not a forecast of what your venue will earn.
Earnings depend on how many customers rent, their paid rental time and the resulting net receipts. The £3 hourly customer price does not mean a guaranteed 60p hourly payment to the venue.
Is there a placement agreement?
Yes. Hosting is subject to a placement agreement, which AmpLet provides before you commit. It explains the length of the placement, payment arrangements, each side's responsibilities and how the arrangement can end.
Read the agreement and ask us about anything you want clarified before committing. Free hosting still involves a commitment to provide the agreed space and care for the equipment.
Which venues are a good fit?
AmpLet focuses on UK pubs, bars and restaurants where customers spend time. Hosting may be useful if:
- Customers already ask your team for somewhere to charge a phone.
- People stay for drinks, dinner or an evening out.
- You have a visible spot where customers can use the station themselves.
- You can meet the placement agreement's requirements.
The right position and customer demand matter. A station being free to host does not guarantee rental income.
